I’m really burned out on RPing right now, and I’ve been super busy with school, so I’m putting my characters on hiatus until further notice.

If you need to get in contact with me for whatever reason, my personal’s here.

*Portal Time*

newleader:

*Starscream brushes away the dust and grit as best he can, but already he can tell that there’s contaminants within the fragile casing of the gun. He’ll probably have to take off some of the plating and clean the inside, whilst reconnecting any broken wires or fixing any damage done. It’s not too dented, so hopefully there’s nothing incredibly wrong with it.

He glances around. At the top of a mountain probably isn’t the best place to do this. He can see clouds forming, and if a storm comes up it could ruin his plans very quickly. He’s about to lift off to make his way downhill, but Soundwave’s question brings him up short.*

Do you even know the meaning of “experimental”? That’s what I was testing to find out!

*He turns on his heel and shoots into the air. Soundwave can make his own way down for all he cares. He winces a little, though, as he corrects for the injury to his heel. He’ll have to have a look at that once he’s found somewhere he can work without worry. He’s hardly worried about not returning to his own universe - the experiments he’s done so far with the portals seem to indicate there’s not too many universes that are joined - either that or there are an infinite number of cloned universes that are functionally identical. Even if the gun can’t be “aimed” at a specific universe, he’s positive they’ll find their way home in no time.

At least.. he really hopes so.*

Soundwave glowers at Starscream—he doesn’t much like what he’s learning from the Seeker’s mind, nor does he appreciate the mech’s response to what had been a perfectly reasonable question. It’s obvious that Starscream did some testing prior to being interrupted. If Starscream won’t tell him, then Soundwave will simply glean the answer from his mind.

He doesn’t have to wait long, however, and the answer he finds isn’t one he likes. Through his irritation, a cold dread begins to rise in his systems. He is no scientist. They are here by Starscream’s doing, intentional or not, and Soundwave will be little help in finding their way back. The most he can do is to identify universes at a distance via their electromagnetic signals—assuming Starscream’s gun still works.

Near helplessness is not a feeling Soundwave is accustomed to, nor one he enjoys. However, as he lifts off behind Starscream, his fear begins to twist back into vindictive anger, and while he elects not to verbally respond to Starscream’s jibe, he expresses his displeasure with the situation with a thread of irritation sent at the mech’s mind. If Soundwave didn’t need Starscream as much as he did, the Seeker would do well to be afraid.

*Portal Time*

newleader:

*Starscream tosses his hands up, clearly actually so angry he’s unable to speak. Once he’s taken a few deep breaths, he opens his mouth to speak again, deliberately not facing Soundwave. He’s ready to explain that he had not expected to be interrupted, that his reaction was perfectly normal for a Decepticon (..maybe not normal, but certainly not strange), that if he’d been spoken to over comms or tannoy, he’d not have turned around, and that it had been Soundwave’s utterly unneeded physical presence that had caused the accident, when suddenly he notes something silver on the ground. The glint of metal stands out against the dull rock, and Starscream lets out a hiss of triumph.*

Ha! Looks like we’re not stuck here after all!

*He darts across to the metal object, clearing small rocks away from it and picking it up. It is battered and some of the metal has been torn away in the fall, but it’s definitely the portal gun.*

I’ll need to repair it before it will be fully functional again…

*He muses to himself. He’s all but forgotten Soundwave.*

Soundwave crosses his arms as Starscream turns away, chin lifting slightly in spiteful triumph. It’s the smallest of victories, but in light of their current situation, he’ll take what he can get. The rebuttal—such as it is—that Soundwave can see being formulated in Starscream’s mind is just as hollow as everything else he’d said so far. That they’re stuck here is fully Starscream’s fau—

He feels the shock of surprise just as Starscream does, and a surge of hope rushes through him. It’s the portal gun, and they can go back!

Only a second later, however, his enthusiasm is muted by a single realization: if there’s one thing he can trust where Starscream is concerned, it’s the mech’s constant incompetency. Soundwave has no reason to trust that Starscream can actually manage to make a portal that will send them back, rather than just sending them somewhere different.

"Query: level of control?" he asks, arms still crossed, and visor still narrowed.

*silence in the lab*

newleader:

*Shaken, he lands nearby the 3IC, still glancing back at where the portal had been. He’s barely listening to Soundwave, but the chance for something to distract him from the fact that he’s once again been dumped into another universe is actually somewhat welcome. He rounds on him, optics flashing.*

It is well known among the Nemesis crew that my lab is to be avoided at all times, none more so than when I am busy within it. Unless you’re going to pretend you didn’t know, and for a mech with delusions of omnipotence, that would be a foolish play indeed!

*He strides closer, ignoring the stripes of pain running up his leg from his turbine, thrusting a finger into Soundwave’s chest.*

You could have just asked over the tannoy system in the labs! You could have commed me! You could have done anything but what you did,  which was walk into my laboratory, without warning, whilst you knew I was testing dangerous equipment! THIS! IS! YOUR! FAULT!

*His wings, hiked high, tremble as he screams. If there’s any organic life nearby, it’s probably fled. That last part brushed the ultrasonic range.*

Soundwave stands still, unwilling to give Starscream the satisfaction of seeing him react to the outburst as Starscream attempts to live up to his name. If he dials down the sensitivity on his audials for most of the duration, well, who’s to know? But when Starscream stabs a finger at his chest, Soundwave reacts, visor narrowing as he brusquely pushes the arm aside.

"Starscream: incompetent," he spits. "Reaction to interruption: extreme. Result of comm or announcement: similar." If Starscream had been touchy enough to do this after simply hearing Soundwave ask a question, Soundwave doubts that his reaction to being startled by a comm or an announcement would have been much different, except in that Soundwave wouldn’t be here with him. Wouldn’t be trapped here, on some deserted planet, with no apparent way back, with Starscream.

*silence in the lab*

newleader:

*It is loud enough to hear, but by the time Starscream’s stopped making strangled noises of outrage to himself, he’s unable to reply to Soundwave. Too far away for vocalisers to comfortably reach, he opens a comm line.*

«I’m at fault? I’m at fault?! None of this would have happened if it hadn’t been for you, you nosy fragger! If you’d just left me to- ah!»

*His sensors stretch, searching for the portal- and he feels it, there, right on the edge! Joyfully, he flies towards it, towards his lab and safety- when suddenly it’s gone. The waveform has collapsed. The portal has vanished.

They are trapped.*

Soundwave feels Starscream’s reaction to seeing the portal close, and without being close enough to see it disappear with his own optics, he knows. He lets his optics flicker offline, and he rubs his visor with a thumb and a forefinger. They’re trapped, and it’s all because Starscream couldn’t control his own Primus-damned device.

«Starscream: incapable of controlling device,» he transmits. «Interruptions: not uncommon. Starscream: at fault.» It sure as the Pit isn’t Soundwave’s fault they’re here—though he is already coming to regret having left the command center on the Nemesis.

*silence in the lab*

newleader:

*Starscream’s turbines instinctively fire as he falls, but it’s useless and he hits the ground feet-first, awkwardly, one leg bending in a way that it shouldn’t-*

Augh!

*Unlike Soundwave, his wings prevent him from rolling down the mountainside. That’s not to say, however, that he doesn’t slide - his heels and hands scrabble frantically at the ground, but it’s too hard and smooth for them to catch anywhere. All he does is grab handfuls of rocks. He slides for a good two minutes before he manages to grab a boulder to halt himself - the mountainside is incredibly steep.

Wincing, he stands, and gazes up at where he fell from. He can’t see any sign of a portal - but he does see, a little further up the mountain, a patch of navy blue. It stands, dusts itself off - and (to Starscream’s mind, at least) - immediately turns to glare at Starscream. He bares his teeth.*

You utter idiot! Look at what you’ve done! Come on, quickly!

*He lifts off, one turbine sputtering, and flies up the hill. He’s clearly looking for the portal.*

Insults? Soundwave is already irritated by Starscream’s obvious incompetency, and now the mech has the temerity to claim it’s his fault? Soundwave’s visor narrows even further as the utterly useless mech he’s currently forced to call ‘commander’ flies past him.

"Starscream: at fault," he hisses venomously, making sure it’s loud enough for the seeker to hear, even though the filters on his vocalizer mean the only difference in his voice is a thread of static.

Still, even while furious, he’s just as driven as Starscream is—perhaps moreso— to find the portal before it closes. Soundwave doesn’t want to consider what would happen if Megatron were to reappear while he was trapped on some distant planet, in some distant universe, and all because of Starscream. His jaw clenches in disgust and irritation, but he turns and begins to climb the hill, examining the airwaves as he does.

He can feel the distortions that can only be caused by the portal, but it’s too far away for him to be able to pinpoint its location with any greater accuracy than just knowing it’s above them. He continues to climb, but he doubts that even the peak will be high enough for him to locate it—assuming it’s even still open by the time he reaches the top.

newleader:

*Starscream, as is habitual, is bent forward over the desk. His hands are absolutely steady, his every sensor focused on the patch of air in front of him. Slowly, slowly he raises the gun, carefully calibrated to form a small portal, and fires. In front of him, a portal the size of the palm of his hand opens - warm, moist air flows out, and distantly, he can hear animals. He reverses the effect, and the portal snaps shut.

Staring at the gun, he grins.*

I am a genius! …But one more test. One more.

*He begins to recalibrate the gun. Once more, he’s not paying attention to anything going on around him - which could prove to be an issue..*

Soundwave has been hardwired into the Nemesis’ communications center for exceedingly long periods of time, before—periods of time far longer than the single orn he’s spent wired to it so far. But, as the data flows through his processor, catalogued and processed with hardly a conscious thought, he considers that he’s rarely been here with so little to do. The Autobots are, for the most part, quiet. The humans, the ants that they are in comparison to the Decepticon forces, are going about their inconsequential lives as usual; there’s nothing of interest to Soundwave in their communications. And, of course, the Decepticons have been stagnant, waiting for Megatron’s return.

Soundwave is stalwart in his belief that his leader will return, and he has absolutely no intention of abandoning his post, as monotonous as it might currently be, but he isn’t immune to simple boredom.

He turns his attention to the Nemesis’ internal cameras—not that he expects much will have changed in the few breems that have passed since the last time he checked. Nothing has, of course, but he finds himself watching the feed for Starscream’s lab, where the mech is, supposedly, working on a way to get their missing leader back. And before Soundwave fully realizes what he’s doing, he has disconnected himself from the mainframe, leaving cables hanging haphazardly, and making his way to the lab.

The door hisses open almost silently, and Soundwave doesn’t bother to announce himself before asking, “Query: progress?”

*Starscream has moved to a more open area for this test - the next test is to fire at the floor, to ensure the portals will not only open in thin air, but on solid surfaces as well. This portal will be larger - he wants to try to make it stay open for as long as he wants. The bigger ones tend to have a problem with that.

With his back to the door, he doesn’t notice as it opens, and Soundwave’s entrance is similarly unnoted. In this way, the inquiry appears to come out of nowhere. His hands, already taut in an attempt to ensure no misfires, fumble the gun as he attempts to turn, arm his null rays, and not knock any delicate equipment over. This does not go well.*

Oh spark me-!

*The portal opens beneath their feet. There’s no way they can avoid it. *

Soundwave’s question answers itself as the portal opens beneath his feet—he has a split second to make a wry observation: Starscream seems to have figured out how to generate portals. And then he’s falling through the floor and into the dry air of some distant planet that, presumably, isn’t in their universe.

He tumbles as he falls, catching brief, blurred glimpses of a rust-red surface below them that’s approaching far too rapidly for his liking. He slams into the rocky ground, arms automatically flinging themselves out to try to catch hold of something, anything, as he realizes he’s not on flat ground—he’s rolling none-too-gently down the side of a mountain that’s almost steep enough to be termed a cliff.

Eventually he comes to a rest and picks himself up, pulling himself out of the moderately-sized pile of rocks that had been dislodged by his fall and accompanied him down. He swipes at his visor, brushing the worst of the dirt from it so he can at least see where he’s landed. He spares a moment to inspect his newly-dented armor before he turns in a circle, looking for Starscream, visor darkened and narrowed in an angry glare.

Decepticon.

-Omega Supreme frowned slightly. What was that Decepticon doing on his comm channels? Especially this one. The giant tilted his helm on the side, and stared at his screen.-

Hacking Attempt?

This Autobot, unlike the other, Soundwave recognizes, though he makes no sign of it beyond not asking for a designation.

"Negative," he says in response to Omega Supreme’s question. It isn’t a hacking attempt—yet. That might change, if it seems likely that the mech has any useful information.

Hot Rod notices the message on his HUD; he is still in shock after hearing what happened to Optimus, but as soon as he notices who sent this message - his optics narrow, the young mech recognizing the Decepticon’s third in command. “Decepticon.”

"Assumption: correct." He doesn’t snort in derision at the reply, but only due to long practice.

"Query: designation?" Soundwave doesn’t recognize this particular Autobot, which likely means that he’s simply insignificant and had never had cause to be mentioned in any sort of report.
